"The Scarlet Coloured Wild Beast and Friends"

‘An outrage!’                  ‘A travesty!’                 ‘A gross insult!’

That is how Jehovah's Witnesses might explode on seeing the top picture, "The Scarlet Coloured Wild Beast and Friends." But it is not Watch Tower preaching but WT practice that is being looked at. The beast and the harlot come from the book of Revelation chapter 17 verses 3 - 8. The ‘Watch Tower Man’ is an additional element in the picture. But why is he included?

First, a little historical background. After WWI the League of Nations was set up in 1919 at the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, Paris. This was to prevent such a war occurring again. However it failed tragically in this. So, after WWII the United Nations was established. But before these events a far more important historical event took place according to Watch Tower belief. God's Kingdom under Christ Jesus was established in the heavens in 1914. The League of Nations, then the United Nations was represented by the ‘beast’ and that ‘beast’ refused to recognise God's Kingdom, therefore according to WT beliefs those organisations held God's Kingdom in contempt. They dared to ‘cock a snook’ at God's Kingdom under Christ Jesus!

The harlot is called “Babylon the Great, the mother of prostitutes (idolatresses) and of the filth and atrocities and abominations of the earth.” (Revelation 17:5, Amplified Bible). WT understands this harlot to be "The world empire of false religion." That is, all religions excluding the WT (Jehovah's Witnesses. See the WT publication, "Revelation, Its Grand Climax is at Hand!" 1988, page 258.) A few more quotations from WT publications show their revulsion of the beast and the harlot.

a) "The U.N. is actually a blasphemous counterfeit of God's Messianic Kingdom." (See the WT publication, "Revelation, Its Grand Climax at Hand." 1988, page 248.)

(b)    "This ‘Scarlet Coloured Wild Beast’ of Revelation 17: 3-8 is but an ‘image’ of the Wild Beast in Revelation 13:1.8, which in turn represents all the political powers of Satan the Devil's visible earthly organisation."

"The U.N. is a ‘Beastly image’ and represents an international conspiracy against God's Kingdom."

(See "Babylon the Great has Fallen, God's Kingdom Rules," 1963 pages 506, 594, 602, 608).

(c)    "The Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America went on record as proclaimers that the League [of Nations] would be ‘the political expression of God on earth.’ And the U.S. Senate received an avalanche of mail from religious groups urging it to ratify the Covenant of the League of Nations.

"Jehovah's Witnesses did not jump on the band wagon. [emphasis added]. Even before the peace treaty was confirmed (in October), J. F. Rutherford [the then president of WT] gave a discourse at Cedar Point, Ohio, on September 7, 1919, in which he showed that not the League of Nations but the Kingdom set up by God himself is the only hope for distressed humanity. While acknowledging that a human alliance to improve conditions could accomplish much good, those Bible Students were not turning their backs (emphasis added) on God's own Kingdom in exchange for a political expedient set up by politicians and blessed by the clergy."

(See "Jehovah's Witnesses Proclaimers of God's Kingdom" © 1993 Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania, page 192).

In October 2001 came this startling headline: "Sect accused of hypocrisy over association with organisation it has demonised."

(London Guardian October 8th, 2001, article by Stephen Bates, Religious Affairs Correspondent.)

This exposed the fact that The Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society had done the very thing that they had so scathingly accused "the harlot" of doing, that is, they had joined the United Nations! After `sowing the wind' are they then to `reap the whirlwind'? (Hosea 8:7)

The WT had enlisted as an NGO, (Non-Governmental Organisation) in the DPI, (Department of Public Information). There are about 1500 NGOs in the DPI. These are organisations of considerable resources and a membership that they can influence. They, WT, had signed up (Ciro Aulicino, Writing Dept., Robert Johnson, Service Dept. and Lloyd Barry, now deceased, Governing Body) to promote and "support" the U.N. and their ideals to their members. Of course they did not sit in the council of the UN; they were not representative of nations.

To illustrate: supposing a loyal and faithful Jehovah's Witness were to stand outside not inside one of the churches of "the harlot" and he was handing out leaflets that promoted and supported the said church, to each passerby; he would be expelled from the congregation and because of WT belief, he would be doomed to eternal destruction and ostracised by his family and friends! See the following procedure; it is usually described as being `spiritually healthy.'

"Also a person might renounce his place in the Christian congregation by his actions, such as by becoming part of a secular organisation the objective of which is contrary to the Bible and, hence, is under judgment by Jehovah God. (Compare Revelation 19: 17-21; Isaiah 2: 4.) So if a person who is a Christian chooses to join those who are disapproved by God, it would be fitting for the congregation to acknowledge by a brief announcement that he has disassociated himself and is no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Such a person would be viewed in the same way as a disfellowshipped person." (See the WT publication, "Organised to Accomplish Our Ministry" page 151.)

An October 8, 2001 article by U.K. Guardian exposed the Watchtower, Bible, & Tract Society’s secret association to the UN as a NGO. Following a flood of inquiry by Jehovah's Witnesses, the Watchtower quickly disassociated its membership and released an official explanation stating that they became an NGO (non-governmental organization) simply to have access to research materials at the UN headquarters' library.

How did WT react? Did they repent as their own rules allow? We can help them here and refer them to the same manual as above, the "Organised" book, to page 149:

"A disfellowshipped person may be reinstated in the congregation when he gives clear evidence of repentance, demonstrating that he has abandoned his sinful course of conduct and is desirous of having a good relationship with Jehovah and his organisation. The elders are careful to allow sufficient time, perhaps many months, a year or even longer, for the disfellowshipped person to prove that his profession of repentance is genuine."

Was this `spiritually healthy' procedure followed? Did WT repent? What was their response? 'We didn't know the rules;' they said this to the media, not to any internal judicial body. Not 'knowing the rules' seems to be a chronic problem with WT. Here is an international organisation with a battalion of lawyers and they, 'didn't know the rules'!!!!

But they added further insult to their members' intelligence. This 100 year old, multi-billion dollar, corporation then feebly says with pseudo-childish innocence, "We joined so that we could get a library card" Whoops! A LIBRARY CARD????

They had access to the Dag Hammarskjold Library, the UN's own library for 10 years and they could not find out the rules and obligations binding upon all NGOs? Did the other 1,499 NGOs have the same problem? Whether they used their `library card' or not, the truth of the matter is this; from `the horses mouth' (or should that be from the `beast's mouth'?) Anyway the UN Library itself says, that any responsible and serious student can be accepted and that being an NGO is not a condition for access. (The UN has a library depository in Cambridge, England; this is a city of students. Just a few days ago an official at Cambridge said on the phone, "Absolute Nonsense!" to the suggestion that acceptance into the UN library was only offered to NGOs). Someone's telling `porky pies'! It is quite obvious that WT had their own reasons for joining the UN, and becoming an NGO.

But do you, the God fearing, faithful, street-plodding, house knocking, book buying Witness, do you 'know the rules?' Before you were baptised were you given prior notice of the two most important questions in your lives that you were expected to answer? Do you even know that the rules were changed? (Compare the relevant passages in the Watchtower magazines May 1st 1973 page 280 and June 1st 1985 page 30). Did you know that from 1985, baptismal candidates make a verbal contract with an organisation, the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society? If you do not examine any other references here, do look up those two magazines. Know the rules. Find out the rules from the Bible, God's own library called "the book of books" which has 66 books in it. You can do this without having to join WT. One of those rules is found in Luke 12:1 Amplified Bible. "Be on your guard against the leaven (ferment) of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy [producing unrest and violent agitation.l" (emphasis added)

To many Jehovah's Witnesses the cartoon, "The Scarlet Coloured Wild Beast and Friends" and things mentioned here will come as a shock. But warnings of rampant wild beasts must be given. Whatever colour they are, they rampage across the earth leaving a trail of havoc and indiscriminate destruction like a tsunami aftermath: shattered spirits, broken hearts, ruined lives and wrecked families. However, Jesus said, "Take my yoke upon you" for it "is wholesome (useful, good - not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant)." (Matthew 11: 29,30, Amplified Bible). May these thoughts be of comfort to us and may our loving heavenly Father help us all to heal.
